Goodbye Team Aviva

After 2.5 fantastic years I have left Aviva where I was Head of Digital Product & Design in the Digital Garage. Over that time I've had the privilege of working with an awesome group of individuals and growing an amazingly talented team, who I will miss dearly.

To my team, I'm extremely proud of our many achievements - the new product and journey launches, the new websites and the mammoth task of content migration, the new customer portal and more.

I'll also remember the countless design sprints we did as a team, all the user tests and some of the brilliant yet-to-be-launched work that tested really well with customers - I look forward to seeing these go live :) Keep on kicking ass!

To my colleagues and mentors, it has been a pleasure. Thank you for the invaluable advice, support and the various positive memories that I will take with me.

Celebrating Chinese New Year with the rest of the executive committee

It's an odd feeling leaving colleagues and a team that I recruited and worked so closely with for 2.5 years. It was enough time to really start to feel like family - sharing celebrations, successes, failures, arguments, problem solving and staying up late together to smash deadlines. To my Aviva family, I wish you all the best for the future.

So what's next?

I want to go into creative mode for a while. I miss coding and building new things, and letting my imagination run wild. I have passion projects I want to work on, blog posts I want to write. I'm going to spend the next couple of months traveling and creating. If you'd like to get updated when I have something to announce, subscribe to my mailing list.

Time off - first and foremost will be to take a couple of months off to go travel and see some of my favourite places. Penang, Bali… the usual suspects :)

Writing again - my absence from this blog has been rather conspicuous over the last 2.5 years. The last post I wrote before this one was a call for new hires for my team at Aviva. Since then I haven't written anything.

I'm looking forward to writing some posts about the fintech industry and hopefully share some insights or helpful advice

I've wanted to write about the fintech industry after working within it but two things held me back. One, after leaving work every day mostly I just wanted to crack open a beer rather than write about the industry (just being honest) and two, I had a crippling fear of the wrath of the corporate comms team! (only kidding, well, half kidding about that one). Now though, I'm looking forward to writing some posts about the fintech industry and hopefully share some insights or helpful advice.

More creating - most importantly, I want to sharpen my design and build skills again. It's been 4 years since I coded my last production-ready app and the world has moved on a whole bunch. I want to check out things like React, Vue, upgrade my Rails skillset to Rails 5 and see what Action Cable can do.

If you'd like to get updated when there's a new post on fintech or I have something to announce, subscribe to my mailing list.
