10 Beautiful Women Who Are Way More Intelligent Than You

Run for the hills, lads! They exist!

No but seriously fellow man-people, a beautiful yet intelligent woman (heh. I said “yet”) is something that deserves our worship as much as our apprehension. You see, beautiful women don’t need to be intelligent. They’ll get along just fine in life saying “O RLY?” at everything you say, as you confuse them all the way to the bedroom and mount them just as they figure out, to their horror, what the frick is happening. So, when a woman defies convention by being both hot AND thinking your vast array of chat-up lines based around the model “do you have any (insert nationality here) in you? want some?” are about as amusing as being smashed in the vagina with a wet paper bag full of piranhas, it can be befuddling and in extreme cases, downright embarrassing.

Thus, I have fought tooth and nail, both to find out what that expression means, and to collate information on 10 such examples of these women. Gentlemen, if you ever see one of these women at a bar and become possessed with the desire to try your luck, be forewarned that it’s going to take more than your boyish charms and your rapier wit to get any of these women into bed - it’s going to take intelligence. Or enough Rohypnol to kill a manatee.

mira aroyo

Mira Aroyo

Mira Aroyo is a rare, multi-talented gem of a woman hailing from deepest, darkest Bulgaria. Not only is she a member of the brilliant British band, Ladytron (whose album “Witching Hour” I consider to be a must-listen for all of you), but she is also a model. Oh, and she also has a PHD in Genetics from Oxford University. An appealing combination of man-friendly traits - Mira is the kind of girl who can rock out with the band for your friends, pout for you in private, and acknowledge with a reassuring brand of scientific authority that it’s not your fault you are going bald.

Mira Sorvino

Mira Sorvino

Semi-proving that I have a fetish for women named “Mira”, Mira Sorvino represents both the 2nd Mira on my list and also a disgusting overachiever. Mira graduated “Magna Cum Laude” from Harvard University with a degree in East Asian Studies. Note that I write “Magna Cum Laude” whilst laughing to myself, because my tiny male brain’s automatic reaction to the words “cum laude” is to say “haha. cum laude” under my breath, belittling the massive achievement that “Magna Cum Laude” actually is. Mira is fluent in Mandarin and is apparently an excellent singer.

Severn Cullis-Suzuki

Severn Cullis-Suzuki

A mere 1 year my senior, Severn already has an epic list of accomplishments long enough to cause my testicles to spontaneously retract all the way up to my eyeballs in humble acceptance of how pathetic my life is compared to hers. Yale graduate and daughter of renowned geneticist and environmentalist David Suzuki, Severn is a member of Kofi Annan’s Special Advisory Panel and has been awarded so many accolades that I’ve almost gone full circle and have ceased to be impressed by it.

natalie portman

Natalie Portman

Apart from being an accomplished child and teenage actress, Natalie Portman - now all grown up at age 25 and well within the socially-acceptable moral threshold for me to masturbate over - is as beautiful as she is bright. Fluent in Hebrew and English with conversational ability in a smattering of other languages (including Japanese), Portman also attended top Ivy League institution Harvard University, where she graduated with a degree in Psychology in 2003.

Liya Kebede

Liya Kebede

From humble beginnings, superstar model Liya Kebede has blossomed into an inspirational role model to make all of us look at the floor and kick our heels in guilt at the fact that we do sweet frick all for the well-being of others. When not strutting down the catwalk draped in Gucci, Louis Vuitton and D&G, Liya Kebede campaigns for social awareness in her role as WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. In 2005, she was awarded the UN Day Award and gave this speech as part of her acceptance. She is also head of a self-named foundation to improve the health of mothers and children around the world.

vanessa mae

Vanessa Mae

As a violin player myself, Vanessa Mae’s story simultaneously amazes me and fills me with envy no matter how many times I read it. Whilst she had the benefit of significant financial backing from affluent parents whereas I had to fashion my first violin from saliva and ripped up pieces of old Chinese newspapers, it is undeniable that she was an extraordinarily talented musician as a youth - having performed with many of the best orchestras in the world well before her 20s. Whilst I look upon her adulthood goal of “sexifying” Classical music with obvious hype-machine-induced cynicism, it doesn’t stop me from wanting to be on her.

queen rania

Queen Rania of Jordan

Whilst many royal women are renowned for their philanthropic activities (a convenient, royal byproduct of being bored shitless and having loads of money), Queen Rania is different. She’s hot. In addition to being hot, Queen Rania has quite a brain sitting beneath that multi-million dollar crown. Born a plebian like the rest of us, Rania graduated with a degree in Business Administration and worked at jobs for Citibank and Apple, before becoming all royal by marrying king Abdullah bin Al-Hussein in 1993. With this new-found Real and Ultimate Power, Queen Rania has made her mark on the world with her involvement in several core economic and welfare-related issues including best practices in the field of microfinance and the incorporation of Information Technology into schools. She is also a foundation board member of the World Economic Forum and lends her time to countless other charities and initiatives.

carmen kass

Carmen Kass

As a supermodel, Carmen Kass probably has to deal with a lot of stereotypical assumptions about her intelligence. For example, you probably wouldn’t peg her as the kind of girl who excels at abstract, strategic board games. In fact the only game I know that supermodels excel at involves shitloads of cocaine, a parrot that can recite lines from “Ferris Beuller’s Day Off” and seventeen buckets of fake semen - but I do keep rather eccentric company. Anyway I digress. Apart from being a model for the likes of Dior, Prada, Gucci and Chanel, Carmen Kass is also the President of the Estonian Chess Association. This isn’t just some meaningless, honourary title because she once touched a chess board and the Estonian Chess Association shat their pants and threw money at her agent - she actually kicks arse at chess, plays in tournaments and allegedly prefers a quiet game of chess indoors with friends as opposed to those clichéd supermodel parrot / fake semen parties.

sabrina houssami

Sabrina Houssami

Sabrina Houssami is Australia’s proud entry into the Miss World 2006 contest. Whilst Miss World is usually a depressing, conveyor-belt sushi ride of vacant, wide-eyed women saying the same “world peace is like totally awesome!” judge-friendly speech over and over again, I’m expecting good things from Sabrina, and I’m not just talking about her tits in a bikini top. Sabrina is a mere 19 years old but has already won many accolades in the fields of public speaking and debate. She was a member of the New South Wales champion debating team of 2003 and this year she was a speaker on the winning team of the Goodwill Week Great Debate. She is pretty much everything I look for in a woman - that smouldering yet mysterious Middle-Eastern look and the assertiveness to tell me when I am completely full of shit. Which is all the time.

Ada Byron

Ada Lovelace

I know, I know. You can’t sleep with a dead woman. Legally. Ada Lovelace is the only dearly departed (in 1852) member of my list, but no less deserving. Ada was trained from birth to be a maths and science genius thanks to her mother’s fear and suspicion of hippie, liberal arts types - which was brought on by a nasty breakup with Ada’s poet father, Lord Byron. Ada is well known for her contributions to and English documentation on Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine. Ada, with her mathematically-inclined mind, suggested to Babbage to write a plan on how his machine could be used to calculate Bernoulli numbers. This plan is now regarded by historians as the first computer program ever written.

Closing Thoughts

I hope you enjoyed my terrifyingly frank foray into the world of women who are just way better than any of us. Perhaps I’ve instilled in you a new-found appreciation for the female of the species. Perhaps I’ve rekindled your interest in personality and intellect over attributes that are merely physical.

So. Which one do you want to BONE?

In other news: I’m currently writing a book. It’s titled “My Warm, Tingly Friend: How Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Can Help You To Orgasm Harder, Longer and Sometimes Entirely By Surprise” and will be sold as an E-Book in secure PDF format. Due in Autumn.

  3. It’s good to see that intelligence in women is admired, appreciated and even sometimes desired by men. The fact that you’re mainly interested in boning them can be overlooked this once :P

But I want to point out that just because a woman (or anyone) has a degree in something from a prestigious university, even a PhD - doesn’t necessarily mean they’re intelligent. There are “doctors” out there that can be complete and utter f**ktards whp pretend to be intelligent. Sometimes I’d prefer the dumb people over these types.

The reverse can be said too, sometimes. A lot of intelligent people have never been to university.

Thankfully, most of the time a tertiary education is a good thing >.

And Carmen Kass - nothing special in the looks or brains dept…. but unfortunately we’ve lowered our standards so much these days that we accept either a chick has to be fat, ugly & smart -OR- cute & dumb… ANYTHING other than this is AMAZING — ooooooo, wow!

  20. looks like this article was dugg and front-paged.

and…from the look of the comments there, most of the people don’t quite seem to “get” yongfook.com…

To the people who took this article for what it is: a faintly amusing look at some trouser-pleasing chicks with brains - I thank you.

As an aside, I loved the comments along the lines of, “JUST BECOZ U GOTS A DEGREE DOSNT MEAN U R INTELIGGENT!!!”. What people fail to realise is that, (for example) in the case of Ms Portman - she is bilingual, went to an Ivy League university, continued with graduate studies AND at the same time juggled an incredibly demanding acting career around all of it. If that is not mentally taxing, I don’t know what is.

Whilst I understand that this whole topic was meant tongue-in-cheek and has to be taken in that spirit, I gotta respond to your comments about Natalie Portman. First, she in fact took a LOT of time off to go to school, and those films she did commit to worked around her academic schedule, so in this regard she wasn’t really unlike most students who study six to nine months of the year and then work during the summer. In Portman’s case, the fact that she was able to continue acting in movies whilst going to school is more a reflection of how far backwards studios were willing to bend over for her than any particuarly outstanding ability to multitask on her part.

Second — dude, have you ever been on a movie set? Actors have a LOT of downtime, EVERY day. And that’s just when they’re actually working. If there’s ANY profession that’s accommodating to pursuing individual intellectual/educational pursuits, it’s being a big movie star.

In sum, I think your characterization of her “highly demanding acting career!!!” is a wee bit of an exaggeration.

And even if Portman’s fabulous movie career was more of a distraction than I’m giving it credit for, here’s another point to consider: Portman was already a big fabulous movie star when she attended Harvard or wherever the fuck it was. While it may be terribly unfair, I have to exercise a wee bit of cynicism and wonder if this factor perhaps was taken into consideration by the university when it came to Portman fulfilling her academic requirements. Even at big prestigious Ivy League schools, with their lauded high academic standards, money and prestige can go a long way. May I remind you that George W. Bush also attended Harvard, and I doubt anyone here is gonna say, “George W. is a Harvard alumni, so that pretty much closes the book on the question of his intelligence.” Do you really think the Dean wouldn’t go a little easy on ol’ Natalie? “Well, you know, she’s not a typical student, she has a CAREER to think about!”

I know that, looked at in one light, this all appears like mean-spirited, petty sniping. Certainly completing a graduate degree under ANY circumstances is a sign that you aren’t a complete nonce. But you do have to put this stuff in context. It’s pretty clear you were sort of trying to subtly parody the sort of articles one would find in Cosmo or O, along the lines of “Meet the world’s hottest, most INTELLIGENT eligible women!” On the other hand, damn, but you seem to be standing up for Natalie Portman with the utmost sincerity! And on that note, I just had to comment.

    Just_a_Thought / June 30th, 2006
  27. Oh, and the woman was born in Israel and probably went to Hebrew school from a very young age. I know a lot of kids who went to French immersion. I’m sure the Americans here have friends who may have done the same with Spanish. It’s common. When you’re actually being educated in a second language from childhood, I wouldn’t say that being bilingual is really indicative of outstanding personal achievement. Learning a second language (or more) much later in life — THAT’s a much more admirable feat.

    Just_a_Thought / June 30th, 2006
  28. Mira Arroyo? Wow I used to go to university with her at UCL. Good to hear she’s done well for herself. Very. very intelligent girl annd lovely to boot.

  30. Well, I’ve always sought both brains and beauty, I can’t stand a stupid woman, this is perhaps my downfall though.

On a lighter note, I think that Just a Thought guy had far too much time on his hands, at least, more than the average Yongfook visitor.

    Ariennette / June 30th, 2006
  31. I certainly did today! :)

    Just_a_Thought / June 30th, 2006
  32. And Just a Thought said everything I wanted to. To be honest, being even a moderate profile public figure would tend to make the academia more forgiving, and while actors do have long hours where they have to be on set, the amount of time that they have to spend actively working is significantly lower than that. Also factoring in that in the 3 months they work on a film will more than support them for the coming year, I tend to think it would be a far sight easier than the students who work at a McJob over the summer for 8 hours a day, then go back to study, and often still work some shifts during semester. This is from experience as someone who in their Uni holidays tends to work 10-12 hours per day 5 days a week on their holidays, then 8-11 hours per week during semester. Notably I could work fewer hours, but I love my work colleagues and know that I can help them out by working longer.

That being said, I still like that intelligence is appealing.

    Paul Tan / June 30th, 2006
  42. Exactly what Just a Thought said.

I’m not saying (and I doubt Just a Thought is either) that these women are stupid, I’m just saying that your requisites for being dubbed ‘intelligent’ could be argued. Especially in the case of celebrities, where they have a big PR machine churning out stories to tell you how wonderful these women are, especially when they have to fly in the face of the papparazzi and glossy magazines that want nothing but scandal.

Secondly, yongfook, paraphrasing commenters (even if they are Digg commenters) as saying “JUST BECOZ U GOTS A DEGREE DOSNT MEAN U R INTELIGGENT!!!â€? when in fact most of them were at least using correct punctuation and had arguments to back up their opinion makes you look like a twat that can’t handle being told that your opinion is wrong. And hiding behind the “obviously they don’t ‘get’ yongfook.com” argument doesn’t stick either.

  45. Mine’s an off-the-cuff reaction too. I just happen to agree with yours :P

As for derailing, that tends to happen a lot here, doesn’t it? Especially after Digg gets involved.

    Chidade / June 30th, 2006
  46. The funny thing is, I guarantee you if Natalie Portman wasn’t on this list, I would have had 50 people all saying “OMGWTF you forgot Natalie Portman - she went to HARVARD and she’s TOTALLY HOT. DUDE UR GAY”.

As for paraphrasing people - Chidade, do you ever read my site? since when do I not berate the fuck out of all of you for every tiny little thing you do. You especially, since you seem to be this angry little criticism machine as of late.

The fact is, NONE of you have anything to base your opinion on other than assumption or hearsay. You are basically saying “yeah, can’t be that hard to study at Harvard and be an actress too”, but do you actually know? No, you know about as much as I do - sweet fuck all. I don’t see how that is being “proved wrong” - you’re just challenging my baseless view with yours, neither of us is right, but then it doesn’t really matter does it because this is just my personal list, on a blog that has reviews of carrot milk and podcasts about penises.

If you don’t like my list, don’t whine about it, get busy and make your own, or at least suggest alternatives. Simply saying “NOPE NOPE NOPE SHE’S NOT INTELLIGENT!!!!1″ isn’t constructive, and you’re arguing something that’s highly subjective anyway (Logically speaking, does anything you’ve said prove these women are NOT intelligent?). If you come up with a few women who should have been on the list, with real reasons, then I’ll give you your ivory tower back.

Speaking of subjectivity, I noticed something interesting. Whilst writing this I thought to myself how intelligence is subjective and wondered what the reaction would be to Vanessa Mae being on the list. She is probably the only person here completely grounded in “arts” and has had nothing but a music-related education since birth. Now, as a violin player I’m biased towards equating her talent with intelligence, but is she really intelligent? Can she string a coherent sentence together? Is she politically active? Can she program her VCR? To be honest, out of all the women in the list I thought she would be the one to get judged by all the cynics.

Predictably, Natalie Portman - arguably the most famous in a popular sense - got picked on the most.

    yongfook / June 30th, 2006
  47. Just to clarify — I never actually cast any doubt on Portman’s intelligence, nor said it was “easy” to attend Harvard and be an actress. But as someone who has actually worked in film, been on set, and seen what actors do with themselves all day, I know that it’s perfectly possible to both work AND study, especially if you have employers who are accomodating your schedule, which she had. All I’m doing is pointing out that your characterization of her career as being “incredibly demanding!!!!” is a wee bit exaggerated, given the circumstances.

    Just_a_Thought / June 30th, 2006
  48. Just_a_Thought > oh, and the other reason I’m sticking up for Portman is so that she might read this and want to bone me.

    Cheers.

  51. I can only date smart women. At a certain point, my natural causticity overrides my better judgement and I unconsciously point out stupid things that they say. I don’t do this to be malicious but it usually not long until they think that I am purposely making them feel stupid, and thus I have to drop them due to their incessant whining, “You really think I’m stupid don’t you? You do, don’t you? Don’t you? You do. Omigod. Nucular. Nucular!” Blah blah blah. Then I have to move on and hope that the next outstandingly beautiful girl that I pursue happens to be Natalie Portman…preferably too drunk to realize that I’m not famous or beautiful.

    Guig / June 30th, 2006
  52. Actually, I was thinking about Vanessa Mae too, because if you look at obviously magnificent musicians like David Helfgott - he’s a brilliant pianist but mentally disabled and not the kind of person you would label intelligent. Intelligence is subjective, yes.

  75. I read in an interview that Natalie Portman applied to Harvard using her grandmother/mother’s maiden name - cannot remember facts too clearly.

I dont know how transparent these applications are.

But this may add to the incredibly stupid debate of people trying to discredit her.

Having a career that involves being transatlantic is probably more than a little taxing on your academic career? Especially when you are curved against people who devote 24/7 to their academia. I understand most Harvard students are probably very involved in extra-cirriculars, but having an outside career is a completely different thing/burden altogether.

  76. Sabrina Houssami is By FARRRRRRRRRRR the best on your list. She is an exceptioanal Human being. Really unmatched in quality. I Just read in the Herald Sun that she is now a member of MENSA (for ultra intelligent people). Hats off for the New Queen of Aussie.

  77. Yes. Yes she is.

  78. Mira Aroyo - Alright, but I think Ladytron are overrated. Most of it sounds like French elevator music and screwing to that would completely ruin my flow. Mira Sorvino - Incredibly hot but had sex with Quentin Tarantino. It makes me think that her vag is going to want to bring John Travolta in on anything we do. Severn Cullis-Suzuki - Easily the best one on the list. She is adorable and intelligent. She’s actually so big you’d become Mr. Cullis-Suzuki and pretty much be defined by everything she does. But she’s adorable so you have to let it slide. Natalie Portman - Cute, but a midget. And while I do agree going to Harvard while shooting movies does require immense talent, I’m always suspicious of famous people who attend excellent schools after they’ve attained fame. Liya Kebede - Meh. Vanessa Mae - Being a musician (as a kid I was training to be a professional pianist. Then I quit and played guitar in black metal bands), I too am impressed by musical talent and equate it to intelligence, particularly when it’s a woman. I think more so than a man, a woman would be more likely to be thought of as intelligent than a male musician. That said, there are many brilliant musicians who are flat out dumb, and also completely jackasses. Most of the weirdest people I’ve met have been classical musicians. And yeah, she has the vag but whatever. Queen Rania - Royaltly? Corporate success? Bimyou. Carmen Kass - Well, she’s blonde and plays chess. I think this one is more of a proving wrong of expectations. You see a blonde and you expect her to be staring at a revolving door scared that it will kill her, but since she plays chess she’s intelligent. Sabrina Houssani - HOT. Absolutely ridiculously HOT. I was going to make a joke about Vagimite here but it’s too ribald. Ada - Oh, the things Jack the Ripper would have done with this Victorian era hottie.

I could be nasty and point out reasons why some of these women might not be “way more intelligent than” me, but I won’t. My question is — why must I bone (one of) them? I’d love to drink a few beers with Mira Aroyo and discuss her top ten favourite albums but the boning would be absolutely unnecessary. For scoring purposes, which seems pretty much to be Jon’s question, Sabrina Houssami wouldn’t have to ask me twice.

  99. After reading all the responses, I can’t remember who was on the list. So, to answer the question, “who would I bone?”, I say, “yes!” With the exception of Ada. Dead women don’t do it for me.

This choice (which I’m sure will be greeted by all the ladies with sighs of relief and joy) is contingent on the opportunity to take them to dinner (singly, or in groups) first and have some sparkling conversation with them.

As to Natalie Portman, I believe she is highly intelligent. That said, I have worked in restaurants with highly intelligent people. I have also known lawyers and doctors who failed utterly to impress with their intellect. I’m also certain that any doctor engaging in conversation with me on a subject of medicine or anatomy would consider me a bore of the first order. These things are subjective to a degree.

  103. Actually, in Australia, Miss Sabrina Houssami has managed to become one of the most disliked people in the country in a remarkably short time.

It turned out that she did not compete to win the crown for Miss World Australia, but was simply handed the title. Many other deserving girls were refused the opportunity to compete for the title. After this was revealed by the Australian media, Miss Houssami gave interviews calling the other contestants “bimbos” and saying she was the only logical choice for Miss Australia. It also turns out that she was not actually a Mensa member. She based her claims of being a Mensa member on having completed an on-line test which stated that she was ready for Mensa membership. Again, after this was revealed by the Australian media, she quickly applied for Mensa Membership, although it is not yet known whether she has obtained it yet.

    Steve / July 13th, 2006
  104. I was a Mensa member until they kicked me out for not paying the membership fees. Since I’m not ultra-intelligent I can assure you that being a member does not mean as much as the media sometimes like to suggest.

If Sabrina Houssami indeed felt the need to brag about her intelligence using a supposed membership, well, shame on her.

She looks really hot, though. I like the bedroom eyes.

    Great article BTW.

    Sigi / July 13th, 2006
  105. Actually, there has been a bit of a catfight on various message boards between our Miss World Australia, Sabrina Houssami, and her many detractors?

For those of you who did not follow the controversy, Miss Houssami was selected as Miss World Australia 2006 after the traditional competitions to select a MWA were cancelled after the organisers claimed they had insufficient time to organise paegents this year due to a change in the date of the finals. It was later revealed that the Australian organisers had known nine months previously that this was going to happen. Miss Houssami responded to the complaints of other Miss World Australia hopefuls that they were not given a chance to compete for the title by calling them “btches” and “bmbos” on national television, and claiming that they were being illogical for not accepting that she was the only logical choice for the position. It was also later revealed that she had misrepresented many of her academic qualifications, such as claiming to be a member of Mensa when in fact she had only completed an on-line test which stated that she could qualify for membership.

The topic of Miss Houssami is being discussed in various Australian message boards and forums. Mysteriously, in each of these threads, posters who have never been heard from before have written in, gushing unconditional praise for the saintly Miss Houssami, and accusing anyone who questions the manner of her selection of being a jealous fellow beauty paegent contestant. These posters all show an eerie level of knowledge of Ms Houssami, as well as the girls she competed against in various competitions. There was one poster on the vogue discussion board who only wrote posts lavishing hyperbolic praise on Miss Houssami, as well as continually reiterating that she was the only logical choice for Miss World Australia and the other contestants were being illogical in not accepting that (Sound familiar?). The said poster stopped posting after it was pointed out that the address the poster’s account was registered under was the same suburb that Miss Houssami lives in.

  111. Wait…I just noticed your comment on the subjectivity of intelligence. To be honest, before I posted my comment, I had asked myself the same question: isn’t intelligence subjective? Then I remembered how psychologists seem to define intelligence.

In psych, they suggest that different kinds of intelligence exists in humans: intrapersonal, interpersonal, creativity/visual-spatial, auditory-musical, body-kinesthetic, verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematic.

So, it does explain Vanessa Mae’s inclusion on your list. ;)
